An attempt in the 1880s to combine all factories under a 'syndicate' fell through, though it led to combinations and limited companies and limited companies. In 1890 the industry had expanded greatly, and the value of the Kidderminster carpet factories was established at £2,000,000. Among the firms of that date were the following:

  • The Carpet Manufacturing Co , . a combination of Mortons (1809) and Richard Smith (1855), owing in 1890 - 702 looms.
  • John Brinton & Co. (1784), was employing 1,500 hands in 1890, producing Brussels, Wilton pile, tapestry, velvet carpets, hosiery, carpet worsted.
  • Henry Jecks Dixon & Sons, founded in 1823.
  • Edward Hughes (1850) had premises at Worcester Cross, which in 1890 was occupied by H.R. Willis
  • Thomas Lea, M.P. had extensive mills for spinning yarn at Pike Mills.
  • R.Watson was spinning at Drayton Mills in 1843, but gave Drayton up when Pike Mill was built.
