The carpet mills of Kidderminster clustered in the centre of the town, and scattered on its outskirts. Offices, warehouses and dye-houses lined the banks of the Stour. The carpet weavers worked in a small handloom shops in the town, and frequently some distance from the employer's office, and the raw materials were fetched from the warehouses to the loo-shop which was where most weavers lived. A list of May3, 1776, names the masters as ; 'John and Joseph Broom, Newcomber & Ball, John Pearsall & Son, Butler & Dobson, Rouse & Pardoe, Henry Penn, Samuel Crane, Benjamin Pearce, Richard Green. It appears to be a complete list of manufacturers in Kidderminster, and is the earlies example of the carpet manufacturers in Kidderminster, and is the earliest example of the manufacturer's working together. In a list of 1853 it shows that the number of manufacturers increased in 77 years from 9 to 23 (not including spinners).
